Legal

Terms.

Last updated · May 3, 2026

These are the terms for using coil. By using the service you agree to them. Email hello@coil.tattoo with questions.

The deal

coil gives you tools to run your tattoo business — site, inquiry inbox, deposit collection via Stripe Connect, aftercare automation, etc. You pay the monthly subscription. You can cancel any time.

Your account

  • You're responsible for what happens under your account.
  • One person per account. Don't share logins.
  • You must be 18+.
  • Don't use coil to do anything illegal.

Identity, slugs, and impersonation

When you claim a coil URL (the slug at yourname.coil.tattoo) you're promising the work and identity you're putting on it are actually yours.

  • Don't claim a slug, display name, or Instagram handle that belongs to another artist.
  • Don't upload someone else's tattoos or art as your portfolio.
  • The “Sign in with Instagram” path is the verified path. It locks the slug to the IG account that signed in. The manual upload path doesn't verify ownership of any identity — if you misrepresent yourself there, you're violating these terms.

If we get a credible impersonation or stolen-work report against your account, we'll suspend it pending review. Confirmed violations result in permanent termination, no refund of subscription fees, and potential legal liability to the artist you misrepresented.

Want to report an account? Email hello@coil.tattoo with the URL and what's wrong (your IG handle for cross- reference helps).

Your work, your clients

  • You own your portfolio, your bio, your inquiry data, your client list. We hold it for you, we don't take it.
  • You give us a license to display, store, and process that content for the purpose of running coil for you (rendering your site, sending your aftercare, etc.).
  • You're responsible for getting consent from your clients where it's required — SMS opt-in for aftercare, healed photo permission, that kind of thing. coil's aftercare templates include opt-out language.
  • Don't upload anything you don't have rights to. Don't use coil to send unsolicited bulk SMS / spam.

Payments

  • Subscription billing is monthly via Stripe. Cancel any time from your billing dashboard.
  • Deposits collected from your clients flow through Stripe Connect direct to your bank. coil never holds those funds and never takes a percentage.
  • Refunds on subscription fees are at our discretion — usually we won't fight you on it. Ping us.

Acceptable use

You may not:

  • Use coil for content that's illegal where you operate
  • Use the inquiry / aftercare SMS systems to send bulk messages to people who haven't opted in
  • Reverse-engineer the platform, bypass auth, scrape
  • Resell coil access without written permission

We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these. If we do, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to fix it first unless the issue is severe.

Service availability

coil is software running on the internet. We try to keep it up and we monitor errors closely, but there's no SLA on this tier. Outages happen.

Changes to the service

We add and remove features over time. If we deprecate something you're actively using, we'll give notice. Pricing changes for existing accounts get at least 30 days' notice by email.

Cancellation

Cancel any time, self-serve, from billing. Your subscription runs to the end of the current billing cycle, then stops. Your data stays accessible for 30 days after cancellation in case you need it.

Disclaimers and liability

The service is provided “as is” — to the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of or related to coil is capped at the greater of $100 or what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. None of this limits liability for things the law doesn't let us limit.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the operator is principally based, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
