Coil vs Tattoo Studio Pro.
Same price. Different center.

Tattoo Studio Pro and coil both start at $29 a month and neither takes a cut. That's where they split. Tattoo Studio Pro is a studio back office: booking with intake, consent by QR code at the front desk, Stripe deposits, unlimited text reminders, a point of sale with card readers and buy-now-pay-later, and reports that spit out commissions and taxes. Coil starts from the artist's own site and runs the client loop around it: the inquiry, the deposit, the consent form with your state's rules, aftercare texts, healing photo replies, the waitlist, the tip, the touch-up, the review. Both are honest tools. Pick the one built around where your day actually happens.

The honest read

Tattoo Studio Pro is the front desk.

Check-in by QR, a card reader on the counter, buy-now-pay-later, sales and tax reports, commissions. Every feature on every plan, unlimited texts included. If your shop runs through a counter, it fits.

Coil is the artist's page and everything after it.

A site built from your photos, a booking form that qualifies, aftercare and healing handled by text, a waitlist that fills itself, and a shop layer on top. If your shop runs through Instagram and a phone, it fits.

Same $29. Both flat. Neither takes a cut.

Tattoo Studio Pro prices by team size and takes 30% off for annual. Coil is $49 a chair for shops. On a small team the bills are close; the product is the decision, not the price.

When Tattoo Studio Pro fits you better

If your shop runs through a front desk, clients check in with a QR code, someone swipes a card at the counter, and the owner wants sales and tax reports at the end of the month, Tattoo Studio Pro is built for that day. Buy-now-pay-later at checkout is real for big pieces. Every feature on every plan and 30% off annual is a clean deal, and it's the same $29 as coil for a solo artist.

When coil is the right call

If clients find you on Instagram and the first thing they see should be your work at your own address, coil builds that page before you pay a dollar. If the part that eats your evenings is the aftercare questions and the healing photos, coil answers those. If a cancelled slot should fill itself from a waitlist, that's coil. And if an artist leaves your shop, on coil they keep their page and their clients, which is the thing that gets good artists to say yes to a shop in the first place.

Common questions

What people ask.

Does either one take a cut?
No. Both are flat monthly. Tattoo Studio Pro runs deposits through Stripe at Stripe's rate; coil does the same. Neither adds a percentage on top.
Does coil have a card reader?
No. Coil takes deposits and balances by Stripe link, or shows the client your Venmo, Cash App, Zelle or PayPal. Cash and card taken at the shop get recorded on the appointment so the books stay right. If you need hardware on the counter today, Tattoo Studio Pro ships it.
Which one handles aftercare?
Coil. Aftercare texts go out on a schedule, healing photos get read and the normal ones answered, and the ones that look wrong come to you. Tattoo Studio Pro covers reminders before the session, not the weeks after.
Which one is better for a shop owner?
Depends on the shop. Tattoo Studio Pro has the stronger reporting and the point of sale. Coil has the roster with each artist's own page, apprentice approvals, per-chair shop math, and the portability that lets an artist leave without a fight.
Are these prices current?
Checked September 2026 against Tattoo Studio Pro's own site: $29 a month solo, plans scaled by team size, every feature on every plan, 30-day trial, 30% off annual. Coil is $29 solo, $59 pro, $49 a chair for shops. Both can change; check before you decide.
