Tattoodo Books is free for the artist because the client pays $10 every time they book. Coil is the other way around: it's your site at your own address, your client never pays a coil fee, and you pay one flat bill a month. One brings you strangers and charges them. On coil every inquiry, deposit and review is yours and moves with you. On a marketplace the relationship runs through the marketplace.
If your books are empty and you'd rather have strangers than a slow week, Tattoodo can send them and you pay nothing to try. If your clients already live in your Instagram DMs and you want the deposit request inside the thread instead of a link out, Tattoodo does that and coil doesn't. And if you tattoo in a city where Tattoodo has real traffic, a profile there is a free listing. Nothing stops you from running both.
When coil is the right call
If you already have clients and want them to stop paying a middleman, coil is the one that costs them nothing. If you want the site to be yours, at your own address, with your consent form, your aftercare texts, your waitlist and your reviews, that's coil. A shop can't run on Tattoodo at all; coil runs the roster, the splits and the payout sheet. And when you leave a shop, your whole book leaves with you.

- Yes. There's no subscription and no percentage. The client pays a flat $10 booking fee at checkout every time they book you through Tattoodo. Coil is the opposite: the artist pays $29 a month and the client pays nothing extra.
- Does coil bring me new clients like Tattoodo does?
- Not the way a marketplace does. Coil has a public directory at coil.tattoo/discover and your site is built to rank for your name, your shop and your city. But Tattoodo's artist finder is a real source of strangers, and coil doesn't pretend otherwise. Coil is for running the clients you have and the ones your page brings in.
- Can I use both?
- Yes. Keep a Tattoodo profile for the marketplace and put your coil address in your bio. Clients who find you through Tattoodo pay the $10; clients who find you through your own page don't.
- Does Tattoodo have consent forms or aftercare?
- Tattoodo Books covers the booking, the deposit, reminders and tips. Consent forms, aftercare texts, healing photo replies and the cancellation waitlist are coil features Tattoodo doesn't list.
